Melamchi-Ghyang School Child Club

The School Club was developed to address student issues that a formal education finds difficult to address. Social, emotional, personal and developmental topics are the areas of concern, although this is not definitive. Its purpose is to offer alternative paths through which students are able to discuss difficulties with their peers or teachers or friends or family. The intention is to discuss a problem and reach an acceptable solution to all concerned.

In addition, members monitor the cleanliness of the school, feeding back to the focus teacher.

The School Club members are selected from the children. Every year group is included. 35% of all members are female. The school club does empower the students to address the topics of nutrition and health, sanitation and the environment. It organizes inter-house tournaments during the year. The School club rewards the best performance. The School Club is a major part of the life of the school.

The School Club runs it’s own account; collecting funds from members (5 rupees !) and asking for donations from visitors to the school. The school does provide some funds and the School Club is further supported by the VDC (Village Development Committee).

An Annual assembly; at which student members are elected; is held around the second week of May, every year.
